The HFM series of conferences has grown from an excellent small workshop in Waterloo, Canada at the turn of the new millennium to a bi-annual event. A large fraction the community working in this field has since gathered in Grenoble, Osaka, Braunschweig, Baltimore and Most recently Cambridge. Taipei is proud to host the 2016 version of this exciting, dynamic meeting.

A conference like this is to provide a communication platform for scientists new and old to the field. Frustrated systems are those with a high degeneracy of low energy states. In the context of magnetic systems, geometrical frustration often leads to new states such as spin ice and spin liquid which have been studied extensively since the first meeting in Waterloo and continue to be a source of high impact science.

Not only has this meeting grown over the years, at the annual March Meeting of the American Physical Society this focus topic consistently one of the most well attended themes.

This conference will be a good opportunity for the community to discuss new scientific ideas and the frontier of experimental techniques. It will have been 10 years since this meeting was in the region. We hope scientist new and old will present their recent work to the community in Taiwan.
